The Puzzling Plot Hole In Doctor Strange's Powers In Avengers: Infinity War
News - 15 June 2023
When Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters in 2018, it was a massive success for Marvel. The film brought together all of the beloved superheroes, such as Iron Man and Black Panther, to take on the formidable villain, Thanos. However, despite their best efforts, the heroes ultimately failed in their mission.
One glaring error in the movie involved the character Doctor Strange, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. Doctor Strange possesses incredible super strength, which could have potentially helped him escape a challenging situation. In Infinity War, Doctor Strange, along with Iron Man and Spider-Man, embarks on a journey to Titan, the home planet of Thanos.
The trio quickly realizes that they are stranded on Titan with no way to return to Earth. This plot hole caught the attention of fans, with many questioning why Doctor Strange did not simply use his abilities to create a portal back to Earth. A Reddit user pointed out the inconsistency, stating, "If Doctor Strange could create a portal for that epic entry in Endgame, then why were he and Tony Stark so worried about returning to Earth on their way to Titan?"It is indeed puzzling why Doctor Strange did not use his powers to easily transport himself and his companions back to Earth.
Doctor Strange has a thorough knowledge of Earth's location and could have effortlessly opened a portal back home. This missed opportunity raises questions about the character's decision-making in the film. Furthermore, in Avengers: Endgame, we see Doctor Strange and other sorcerers creating portals to various locations, indicating that they have the ability to teleport to any desired destination.
Despite this error in continuity, the Avengers diptych, consisting of Infinity War and Endgame, remains a monumental success in cinematic history. Together, these two films raked in nearly $5 billion worldwide, solidifying their status as record-breaking blockbusters. The sheer magnitude of the Avengers franchise's success makes it unlikely that any future films will be able to surpass its monumental achievement.
